Town Recovering After Fire
Grantown is getting back on it’s feet following the fire at Beale and Pyper furniture store at the weekend. The fire has had a devastating effect on that business, but Grantown as a whole is still open for business as usual.
David Gill, assistant chief officer with the Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service, offered his thanks to shop staff for clearing the premises quickly and to the local community for its patience following the closure of the High Street for safety reasons. He was also grateful to local businesses that supplied crews with hot soup and sandwiches.
He said: “The community spirit has been fantastic.”
Beale and Pyper is one of the best-known firms in the town, with customers travelling from across the region to shop there.
The store’s owner, Barry Main, was too upset to speak about the fire, but local SNP councillor Dave Fallows said: “The High Street has a tremendous appeal to visitors and it’s one of those few remaining independent furniture stores that was a byword for quality in the area.
